Signature Cocktail— Blood and Salt by Kim Liggett

We created this sexy and scary cocktail in honor of the gorgeous (and equally sexy an scary!) novel BLOOD AND SALT by Kim Liggett.

Here is the description of the book (Which you should buy. Now.):

Romeo and Juliet meets Children of the Corn in this one-of-a-kind romantic horror

“When you fall in love, you will carve out your heart and throw it into the deepest ocean. You will be all in–blood and salt.”

These are the last words Ash Larkin hears before her mother returns to the spiritual commune she escaped long ago. But when Ash follows her to Quivira, Kansas, something sinister and ancient waits among the rustling cornstalks of this village lost to time.

Ash is plagued by memories of her ancestor, Katia, which harken back to the town’s history of unrequited love and murder, alchemy and immortality. Charming traditions soon give way to a string of gruesome deaths, and Ash feels drawn to Dane, a forbidden boy with secrets of his own.

As the community prepares for a ceremony five hundred years in the making, Ash must fight not only to save her mother, but herself–and discover the truth about Quivira before it’s too late. Before she’s all in–blood and salt.

RIIIIIIIIGGGGGGHHHHHHHTTTTTT?! Get the book. Make the drink. Have a wonderful day.

The Reckoning Recipe:

1 tsp Absinthe

1 shot Bourbon Whiskey

1 shot (easy) Ruby Port

1 Black Licorice Whip

Pour Absinthe in your martini glass. Swirl, coating the glass with the liquid. Discard. NOTE: Do not leave the Absinthe in the glass, it will be a very different kind of drink if you do.

Combine Whiskey and Port in a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously. Pour into glass and garnish with licorice.

Drink and be merry.

A Slice of Pie in Baby (Supernatural inspired Alcoholic Beverage) Recipe

ingredients

Stephanie is not normally a whiskey fan, but even she LOVES this drink enough to go in for seconds. We combine the nostalgic flavors from apple pie filling with the sweet, sultry bite of bourbon whiskey, add some whipped cream and a sprinkle of graham cracker crust to create a drink Dean Winchester would certainly enjoy.

Curl up with SUPERNATURAL and savor the goodness.

For the Cinnamon Infused Apple Juice:

  • juice from 5 large Granny Smith Apples
  • three cinnamon sticks
  • cinnamon and nutmeg, to taste
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • three capfuls vanilla extract

We juiced the apples and then strained the juice through a fine mesh strainer three times. If you want even less pulp, you could also try using a french press, which would keep the sediment separate. If you don’t feel like juicing, you can use a store bought non-sweetened apple juice.

Place your cinnamon sticks in a medium sauce pan, pour in juice, and turn on medium heat. Warm throughly.

Add sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla and bring just to a boil. Remove from heat.

For the Drunken Whipped Cream:

  • 1 cup whipped cream
  • 1 shot of whiskey
  • 2 capfuls of vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Combine all ingredients and whip the hell out of it.

To make A SLICE OF PIE IN BABY:

Combine equal parts Cinnamon Infused Apple Juice and Whiskey.

Top with Drunken Whipped Cream.

Garnish with graham cracker crust and cinnamon stick.
